Healthcare
Every Iowan deserves access to quality, affordable health care. But for too many families, that's not the reality. Rural hospitals are closing. Doctors and nurses are stretched thin. Medicaid cuts are putting coverage at risk for tens of thousands of Iowans. Premiums are too high, and Congress let insurance costs skyrocket for thousands of Iowa families.
Clint has seen the impacts up close — in his own family and in conversations with Iowans across the district who are putting off care they need because they simply can't afford it. That's not acceptable. Health care shouldn't depend on your job, your marital status, or your luck.
Clint will fight to:
- Protect Medicare and Medicaid. Clint will fight any cuts to Medicare and work to restore Medicaid funding so tens of thousands of Iowans don't lose their coverage.
- Keep rural hospitals and clinics open. Too many rural communities are losing their only hospital or clinic. Clint will push for the investments needed to keep those doors open and the lights on.
- Make sure we have enough doctors and nurses. A hospital doesn't do much good without the people to staff it. Clint will work to address the healthcare worker shortage, especially in rural areas.
- Create an affordable public option. Everyone should be able to get health coverage — period. Clint will advocate for an affordable public option and work toward the goal of universal coverage so no one falls through the cracks.
- Lower prescription drug prices. Seniors and families shouldn't have to choose between their medications and other basic needs. Clint will fight to expand Medicare's ability to negotiate drug prices and bring costs down.
- Invest in medical research. Supporting research that helps doctors treat patients better and saves lives is one of the most important things Congress can do — and Clint will make sure it stays a priority.
