Housing

Clint has spent the last twenty years focused on affordable housing. Through Matthew 25, he built and rehabbed over 1,000 homes and apartments in Cedar Rapids. He knows firsthand how important a stable, quality home is to a family's well-being — and how hard it can be to find one you can afford, whether you're looking to rent or buy.

Too many Iowans are struggling to find a quality, affordable place to live. According to the Iowa Finance Authority, our state needs 25,000 more homes by 2030 just to keep up with demand — and a quarter of Iowa households are already struggling to afford housing. Solving this problem takes a real commitment and a multifaceted approach. Clint will fight to: Invest in affordable housing. Work across federal, state, and local government to encourage investment in affordable housing through targeted financial incentives and thoughtful neighborhood planning. Fix up existing homes. Expand funding for programs that repair and revitalize older homes in low-income neighborhoods and rural communities — keeping families in their homes and strengthening neighborhoods at the same time. Help first-time homebuyers. Expand down payment assistance programs so that more Iowans — especially first-time and low-income buyers — can afford to get into a home of their own. Support housing stability. No family should lose their housing due to a temporary crisis. Clint will support programs that help families stay in their homes during difficult times and get back on their feet when things go wrong. Grow the construction workforce. Expand apprenticeships and training programs so more people have pathways into the construction trades — because we can't build more housing without the workers to build it.
